Church of Saint Demetrius

Church of Saint Demetrius

One of the most significant early Christian basilicas in Greece, dedicated to the patron saint of Thessaloniki, Saint Demetrius. It was originally built in the 5th century on the site where, according to tradition, the saint was martyred, and is today listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The crypt beneath the church preserves relics and remains of earlier structures associated with the cult of Saint Demetrius.
