Church of the Assumption of Mary in Osor

The Renaissance Cathedral of the Assumption of Mary stands in Osor, a small town at the southern tip of Cres, beside the canal that separates the island from Lošinj. It was built in the mid-15th century, and the project is attributed to Juraj Dalmatinac. The white stone facade with a rose window and a carved portal closes off the main square, where busts of Croatian composers also stand. Osor today has only a few dozen inhabitants, so the contrast between the monumental church and the quiet square is part of the experience.
