Girl with a Seagull

A bronze girl with a seagull perched on her outstretched hand stands on a rock along the Lungomare, near Angiolina Park, and is today the symbol of Opatija. The work is by sculptor Zvonko Car, installed in 1956. Before it, the same rock was home to the Madonna del Mare, erected in 1891 in memory of Count Artur Keselštat, who disappeared in a storm at sea that year. From the shore, the entire Kvarner Bay stretches out before you, and it is at its most peaceful early in the morning, before the promenade fills with visitors.
