Dominican Church and Chapel of St John

The Dominican Church, dating from the 13th century, is one of the earliest Gothic buildings in South Tyrol, and its greatest jewel is the Chapel of St John. The frescoes inside the chapel, painted in the 14th century, were created under the influence of Giotto's school and reveal a new sense of space and human form that was making its way north from Italy at the time. The cloister preserves a later cycle of frescoes as well, and together they show how Italian and northern European art met and mingled in Bolzano.
