One of the most famous zoos in Great Britain, founded in 1913 on 33 hectares in the western part of the city. For years it was the only zoo in the UK with giant pandas (Yang Guang and Tian Tian, returned to China in 2023.), and today it is particularly well known for its penguin colonies — the largest outdoor penguin colony in the world, with over 100 individuals of three species. The 'penguin parade' (a free walk of penguins through the zoo) is one of the most popular events, held every afternoon during the summer months. The zoo is a member of the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland and is focused on the conservation of endangered species. An ideal half-day or full-day outing for families with children of all ages. Accessible by bus (lines 12, 26, 31) or tram (Edinburgh Park station) from the city centre (approximately 20 minutes).
Ticket includes access to all animals and attractions, including penguins and pandas. Online purchase in advance is recommended for a discount.
