Ethnographic Museum

Ethnographic Museum

The Ethnographic Museum occupies a Secession-style palace on Mažuranić Square, built in 1902–1903 to a design by Vjekoslav Bastl for the former Trade and Crafts Museum. The facade is adorned with allegorical sculptures by Rudolf Valdec, and the central hall is crowned by a dome painted by Oton Iveković. The museum was founded in 1919 and holds folk costumes with gold embroidery, musical instruments, furniture, and tools from three Croatian cultural zones, as well as a non-European collection featuring objects from Latin America, Africa, India, and Oceania. It is one of the rare Zagreb buildings where both the architecture and the permanent display are part of the same visit.
