Fontana Pretoria

Fontana Pretoria

A Renaissance fountain dating from 1554, originally created for a Tuscan city and transferred to Palermo in 1573. It is surrounded by approximately 40 marble figures from ancient mythology and is located on Piazza Pretoria, immediately adjacent to the City Hall. The local name 'Fontana della Vergogna' (Fountain of Shame) arose from the nude sculptures that once provoked outrage among the conservative local population.
