At the top of the rock lies the abandoned upper town from the Byzantine period, with the remains of fortifications, towers, and churches. The ascent takes about 20 minutes along a steep path, and from the summit there is a panoramic view of the Laconian Gulf and the coast of the Peloponnese. Particularly impressive are the ruins of the Hagia Sophia church, built in the 12th century.
Free access during the day. The ascent is physically demanding, comfortable footwear is required. Avoid midday when the heat is at its peak.
