Gurten

Gurten

Gurten is Bern's local hill, rising to 858 metres, with views stretching from the Jura mountains to the Bernese Alps. Since 1899, a funicular has connected Wabern, near Bern, to the summit, with the journey taking just a few minutes. From a 22-metre viewing platform, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, and on a clear day the Chasseral is visible as well. At the top you will find Bern's largest children's playground, complete with a miniature railway, climbing frames and a 300-metre marble run. In mid-July, the well-known Gurten Festival takes place on the hill. Allow two to three hours for a trip to the summit.
