Herbstenburg

Herbstenburg is a fortified noble manor in the old part of Dobbiaco, purchased in 1500 by the brothers Kaspar and Kristof Herbst. In 1511 it served as the residence of Emperor Maximilian I, who used it as a base while preparing for war against Venice. The manor is privately owned and can only be viewed from the outside, but together with the parish church and the Stations of the Cross it illustrates how important Dobbiaco once was on the route between the German lands and Venice.
