The historic core of Himara is scattered across a hill three kilometers above the new seafront, with stone passageways and semi-abandoned houses leading up to the ruins of a fortress at the top. From the walls, there is a beautiful view over the bay and Corfu in the distance. Most stunning just before sunset — the combination of stone architecture and sea views makes it one of the most picturesque old towns on the Albanian Riviera. It can be reached by taxi in 5 minutes from the center, or on foot via a mountain trail in about an hour.
The old town of Himara is free to visit with no entrance fee. A morning visit is recommended for better light and fewer crowds.
