Pilgrimage Church of St. Wolfgang

Pilgrimage Church of St. Wolfgang

One of the most important pilgrimage sites in Europe, situated on the lakeshore in the very heart of the town. Inside stands the winged altar by Michael Pacher, created between 1471 and 1479, nearly 11 metres tall and one of the most precious Gothic altarpieces to have survived in its original location. A chapel dating from 1713 houses a sacred stone connected to the legend of St. Wolfgang, and a pilgrimage fountain stands in front of the church. Next to the church is the White Horse Inn, famous from the operetta 'White Horse Inn'. The church is open throughout the year and admission is free.
