A small Byzantine church from the 13th-14th century, situated on a hill above the walls of Kale (the citadel), it is one of the most recognizable structures in panoramic photographs of Berat. Its position above the city offers a wide view of the Osum River, the historic quarters of Mangalem and Gorica, and the surrounding hills of Tomori and Shpëlecë. It is characterized by a cross-shaped floor plan, stone walls, and a domed roof typical of Byzantine architecture. Although smaller than the other churches in Berat (Church of Saint Mary, Church of Saint Michael), its hilltop location makes it particularly photogenic at sunset — when golden light refracts across the white facade and the city below. Access on foot from the entrance to Kale (approximately 15 minutes uphill).
The church is free to visit, located in the old town of Berat (UNESCO). Modest clothing is recommended when visiting.
