An Islamic charitable foundation built in 1817 on the orders of Muhammad Ali, the founder of the modern Egyptian dynasty who was born in Kavala. The complex with its domes and minaret is one of the largest Ottoman structures in Greece and today functions as a luxury hotel, though the exterior is freely accessible for viewing.
The interior of the complex is accessible to hotel guests only. The exterior and the surrounding alleyways of the old town are free to visit.
