Its Kale — Acropolis of Ioannina

Its Kale is the inner citadel of Ioannina Castle, a separately enclosed fortress at the southeastern corner that rises above Lake Pamvotis. It is entered through its own gates, separate from the rest of the fortified old town. At the highest point of the citadel stands the Fethiye Mosque with its preserved minaret and dome, and nearby are the tomb of Ali Pasha of Ioannina and the remains of his former residence. Museums are also housed within the walls, while the ramparts offer views of the lake, the island of Nisaki, and the surrounding mountains, making Its Kale one of the most beautiful spots to visit in Ioannina.
