Castello Maniace

Castello Maniace

A fortress at the southern tip of the island of Ortigia, built in the 13th century under Emperor Frederick II, on the site of an older Byzantine fortification. Its massive walls offer views of the sea and the entrance to the harbor of Syracuse. During restoration, numerous decorative elements and sculptures were discovered, which are today displayed within the fortress.
