Cathedral of Syracuse (Duomo)

The cathedral was built around a 5th-century BC Doric temple of Athena, whose columns are still visible in its side walls. The current baroque facade dates from the 18th century, meaning that ancient, Byzantine, and baroque architecture all intertwine within the same structure. It is located on the main square of Ortigia and is considered one of the most remarkable historic buildings in Sicily.
