Kitzsteinhorn — Gipfelwelt 3000

A glacier above Kaprun, rising to 3,203 metres, and the only point in the province of Salzburg accessible at such an altitude without mountaineering. The Top of Salzburg panoramic platform stands at 3,029 metres, reached from Kaprun town centre via Maiskogel by a series of cable cars — twelve kilometres in just under fifty minutes. A 360-metre tunnel through the mountain leads to the National Park Gallery, with views of the Grossglockner, Austria's highest peak; along the way is a hall where a film about the high-alpine world is screened. Snow remains up here even in summer.
