Land Gate

A Renaissance city gate from 1543 that served as the main entrance to fortified Zadar during the Venetian period. It was designed by Michele Sanmicheli, one of the most renowned military architects of his time. The gate features a relief of Saint Chrysogonus, the patron saint of the city, and the winged lion of Saint Mark, the symbol of the former Republic of Venice.
