Kotor City Walls

A monumental defensive wall system approximately 4.5 kilometers long, built and expanded between the 9th and 19th centuries, largely during the period of Venetian rule. The walls rise from the shore of the Bay of Kotor up to the Fortress of Saint John at an elevation of about 260 meters, and represent one of the best-preserved fortification systems on the Adriatic. They are part of the UNESCO-protected natural and cultural-historical area of Kotor and offer spectacular views of the old town, the bay, and the surrounding mountains.
