Hydra Port and Waterfront

Hydra Port and Waterfront

The main harbor of Hydra is the heart of the island — a semicircular quayside wall surrounded by 18th-century stone houses, with not a single car or scooter in sight. The island has no motor vehicle traffic, so goods and passengers are still transported by donkeys, horses, and boats, making the harbor completely unlike any other Greek destination. At the entrance to the harbor, old cannons still stand on stone bastions that once guarded access to the port of Hydra — a testament to the island's maritime power during the era of the Greek War of Independence.
