A historic 15th-century monastery connected to the founding of Funchal and the early development of Madeira. For more than four centuries it was closed to the public, and today visitors can tour the church, cloister, and collection of artistic and religious objects that bear witness to life on the island through the centuries. The peaceful atmosphere and rich history make it an interesting stop for those who want to discover the lesser-known side of Madeira.
The ticket includes a tour of the monastery complex and the museum with an exhibition on the history of the Poor Clares in Madeira. A morning visit is recommended as opening hours are limited.
