Mariendom

Mariendom

The largest church in Austria, a Neo-Gothic structure from the second half of the 19th century with a capacity of around twenty thousand people. Its tower was deliberately built shorter than the tower of Vienna's Stephansdom, as the rules of the time forbade any church in the empire from surpassing it in height. Inside, stained-glass windows depict scenes from the city's history, including one portraying Linz itself.
