Six active Orthodox monasteries built on top of vertical sandstone cliffs reaching heights of up to 400 meters. The complex has been under UNESCO protection since 1988. Some monasteries require moderate physical effort due to steps carved into the rock.
Each monastery charges admission separately (around 3 EUR per monastery). Dress code is mandatory — covered shoulders and knees. Early arrival before 10:00 is recommended to avoid crowds.
