Mezquita-Catedral de Córdoba

Mezquita-Catedral de Córdoba

A former grand mosque, whose construction began in the 8th century on the site of an earlier Visigoth church, was converted into a cathedral following the Christian conquest of Córdoba. The interior is recognizable by its forest of columns and distinctive two-tone red-and-white arches, while a Renaissance cathedral nave sits within the former Islamic structure. The complex is under UNESCO protection and represents one of the most significant historical landmarks of Andalusia.
