A Moorish medieval castle from the 10th century, perched on a ridge right next to Palácio da Pena. Although visually less striking than its lavish neighbor, it should not be underestimated — long stone walls descend and climb the hillside, and the view from the towers stretches across the Sintra forest all the way to the Atlantic. In cooler weather and without fog, Lisbon is visible in the distance. Ideal for exploring before sunset, when crowds are smaller and the light is golden. Getting there: bus 434 from the center (shared with Pena).
The ticket is valid only for Castelo dos Mouros; a combined ticket with Palácio da Pena costs more and purchasing it online in advance is recommended. The fortress is open throughout the year, but the paths can be slippery in the rain.
