Ali Pasha's Bridge

Ali Pasha's Bridge

Ali Pasha's Bridge is a stone aqueduct-bridge from the early 19th century, built during the reign of Ali Pasha of Ioannina to supply the fortress of Gjirokaster with water. Part of a former aqueduct several kilometers long, today a partially preserved arch stands amid greenery above the city, reached by a pleasant walk outside the bazaar core. The monument bears witness to the engineering of the Ottoman period and offers a different view of the city from the surrounding hills.
