Hum

The highest point of the island of Vis (587 m above sea level) with a panoramic view of Komiža, the open sea, and the surrounding islands — including Biševo (with the Blue Cave), Sveti Andrija, and in the distance Korčula and Hvar. At the summit stands a small 17th-century church of the Holy Spirit, as well as the remains of military bunkers from the time when Vis was a strategic Yugoslav military base. It is especially popular in the late afternoon hours, due to the sunset views that bathe the western shore and Komiža in light. The summit is accessible by an asphalt road, as well as by a hiking trail from Komiža — the ascent takes about two hours and is demanding.
