Housed in a former Benedictine monastery along the Arno river, this museum holds one of the most significant collections of Pisan and Tuscan medieval art — works by Cimabue, Simone Martini, and Masaccio. The sculpture collection by Giovanni and Nicola Pisano is particularly noteworthy. It receives far fewer tourists than Piazza dei Miracoli, so crowds are rare.
The museum is closed on Mondays. Tickets are purchased at the ticket office, with no online reservation available. A morning visit is recommended when the number of visitors is at its lowest.
