Segantini Museum

Segantini Museum

The Segantini Museum opened in 1908 as a memorial to the painter Giovanni Segantini, designed by Engadin architect Nikolaus Hartmann, and has since been expanded three times. The centrepiece of the collection is the Alpine Triptych 'Becoming – Being – Passing Away' (Werden – Sein – Vergehen); Segantini died while working on the central panel of the triptych on the Schafberg mountain above Pontresina. The collection also includes the paintings 'Ave Maria on the Crossing' and 'Midday in the Alps'. The museum operates seasonally, with the winter season beginning in December.
