Kunstmuseum Bern

The Kunstmuseum Bern is one of the oldest art museums in Switzerland: the collection was founded in 1849, and the building on Hodlerstrasse opened on 9 August 1879. The collection spans the period from the Middle Ages to the present day, with works by Ferdinand Hodler, Paul Klee, Arnold Böcklin, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, and Albert Anker. Among the most significant works are pieces by Pablo Picasso, Meret Oppenheim, and Vincent van Gogh. The museum is open Tuesday from 10:00 to 20:00, and Wednesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 17:00; it is closed on Mondays. Allow around two hours for the permanent collection, and the Tuesday evening hours make it a particularly good option for a rainy night out.
