Regola Museums in Pontechiesi — Ethnographic and Palaeontological

In Pontechiesi, not far from the centre, two Regola d'Ampezzo museums operate in neighbouring buildings. The ethnographic museum is housed in a restored old sawmill and tells the story of the Regole — a centuries-old system of communal land ownership held by the valley's families, which still manages the forests, pastures and nature park today — as well as the traditional costumes and crafts of Ampezzo. The palaeontological museum bears the name of Rinaldo Zardini, a local collector who spent decades finding fossils in the surrounding mountains, and illustrates how the Dolomites were once covered by sea. Together they form a single visit that explains both the people and the rocks of this valley.
