Niš Fortress

Niš Fortress

Niš Fortress is an Ottoman fortification built in the first half of the 18th century on the right bank of the Nišava River, on a site that had served a defensive role in earlier historical periods as well. Through the Stambol Gate one enters a spacious complex within the ramparts, today arranged as a city park, with preserved structures and traces of the Ottoman period. The fortress is part of the historical core of Niš and a space where cultural events are held.
