The historic core of Ohrid, with stone-paved streets, traditional 19th-century houses, and numerous churches dating from the Byzantine period. A walk through the old town offers a unique blend of UNESCO heritage, local culture, and views over Lake Ohrid. The old town has been under UNESCO protection since 1979 — one of the rare sites with dual status (cultural and natural). Most beautiful in the morning before the crowds, or at sunset.
The Old Town of Ohrid is free to walk through and explore. Some attractions within the old town (churches, the fortress) charge a separate entrance fee.
