Lake Ohrid

Lake Ohrid is one of the oldest and deepest lakes in the world — approximately 3 million years old, reaching depths of up to 294 m — and home to numerous endemic species found nowhere else on Earth. Its crystal-clear water and mountain backdrop make it the heart of the entire destination: beaches, fishing villages, and viewpoints line its shores, while a boat ride to the Church of Saint John at Kaneo or the Monastery of Saint Naum is one of the most beautiful experiences in the region. The lake is under UNESCO protection as a rare site with dual — natural and cultural — status.
