Muri-Gries Abbey

Muri-Gries Abbey

In the Gries district, west of the city centre, stands the Benedictine abbey of Muri-Gries, built on the site of a former castle. Benedictine monks from Muri in Switzerland have lived here since the mid-19th century, and the monastery is renowned for its Baroque church and its winery, one of the most celebrated producers of Lagrein wine. In the monastery's wine shop, visitors can taste and purchase the wine, making a visit a perfect blend of history, architecture, and the flavours of Bolzano.
