A lavish 19th-century opera house, one of the most beautiful buildings in Paris and a masterpiece of Second French Empire architecture. It was designed by Charles Garnier and opened in 1875. The richly adorned interior exudes luxury — a marble grand staircase, elaborately decorated halls, a sumptuous foyer, and a grand auditorium featuring a world-famous painted ceiling created by Marc Chagall in 1964. The opera house inspired Gaston Leroux to write the novel 'The Phantom of the Opera'. Open for visits outside of performances — tickets are sold online.
The ticket allows self-guided exploration of the opera house interior, including the foyer, the grand auditorium, and the Grand Escalier. Online booking in advance is recommended; an audio guide is available for an additional fee.
