Piazza del Campo

Piazza del Campo is the main city square, shaped like a shell, and the center of the historic core of Siena. The Palio horse race is held here every year in July and August. The square is paved with red brick and divided into nine segments symbolizing the rule of the Nine. Rising from Piazza del Campo is Torre del Mangia, a medieval tower 88 m tall, which can be climbed for a panoramic view of the entire city.
