The highest peak of Madeira (1,862 m), accessible on foot via various hiking trails. The shortest route starts from Achada do Teixeira and takes about 45 minutes, while the well-known trail PR1 connects Pico Ruivo with the peak of Pico do Arieiro through mountain passes, tunnels, and stone steps. From the summit, there are views of the mountain ranges and the interior of the island.
Access to the Pico Ruivo summit is free and open year-round. An early start is recommended due to fog and changeable weather, and good hiking footwear is essential.
