Market on Kaiser-Josef-Platz

Market on Kaiser-Josef-Platz

The weekly market on Kaiser-Josef-Platz has been held since 1669, when Emperor Leopold I granted the right to hold a market in this part of what was already a well-developed Graz. The stalls are arranged around a 19th-century central fountain, and the offering includes local fruit, vegetables, cheeses, and flowers from the Styria region. The square is surrounded by neoclassical façades of residential buildings, making it one of the few Austrian market spaces that has not been architecturally altered since the end of the Habsburg era.
