A massive stone gate from the Venetian period, it is the only land passage onto the rock of Monemvasia, carved directly into the living rock. The bridge leading to the gate offers views of a narrow sea passage on one side and the open sea on the other. This is the point from which all visits begin and which best illustrates the strategic position of the fortress.
The passage is open free of charge. For photographing the gate and bridge, the best light is in the morning or around sunset.
