Roman Theatre (Teatro Romano)

The Roman Theatre at the foot of the Alcazaba is the oldest preserved monument in Malaga. It was built in the 1st century BC, during the reign of Emperor Augustus, and remained in use until the 3rd century, after which it was buried and forgotten for centuries, until it was rediscovered in 1951. The stone semicircle of the auditorium is still occasionally used for open-air cultural events. From the site, you can simultaneously see the Roman Theatre, the Alcazaba above it, and Castillo de Gibralfaro on the hill, presenting the different historical layers of Malaga within a small area.
