An imposing 15th-century fortress built by Pope Pius II to control Tivoli. Its massive circular towers dominate the city skyline and represent one of the most recognizable historical symbols of the city. Located near the historic core of Tivoli, the fortress served for centuries as a military facility and prison, and today occasionally hosts cultural events and exhibitions. The exterior of the fortress can be seen without a ticket, while the interior opens for visits seasonally. A more relaxed and less tourist-heavy alternative to Villa d'Este and Villa Adriana for those seeking a more complete impression of Tivoli.
The ticket includes a visit to the fortress and the museum located inside. It is recommended to purchase on-site or online in advance.
