Rosengarten

Rosengarten is a park on the hill above Bear Park, overlooking Bern's Old Town and its main landmarks, including Bern Minster. From 1765 to 1877 this site served as the cemetery for the lower part of the Old Town, and it has only been a public park since 1913. According to Bern Welcome, the park is home to more than 400 varieties of roses and irises and 28 varieties of rhododendrons. The roses bloom in summer, making that the best time to visit, though the view over the city is well worth the trip outside the season too. At the southern entrance is the Rosengarten restaurant, open throughout the day. The climb from Bear Park is short but steep, so plan it as a continuation of the same walk.
