Cape Leucata — Akra Doukato

The southernmost cape of the island features dramatic limestone cliffs about 70 meters high, where in antiquity there was a sanctuary of Apollo — according to legend, the poetess Sappho leaped from these cliffs. Remains of the ancient temple are visible, and a 19th-century lighthouse is still in operation. From the cliffs, a sweeping view opens over the open Ionian Sea.
