Santo Wines

Type: vinarija

The most famous winery on Santorini, situated on the cliffs above the volcanic caldera in the village of Pyrgos. Visitors can taste local varieties specific to Santorini — Assyrtiko (a dry white wine with volcanic minerals), Nykteri (a drier style of Assyrtiko), and Vinsanto (a sweet dessert wine made from dried grapes). The vineyard cultivates its vines in the unique 'kouloura' style — the grapes grow in basket-like shapes on the ground, which protects them from strong winds. The tasting experience is accompanied by a panoramic view of the entire caldera, the volcanic islands, and the sea — particularly spectacular at sunset. Reservations recommended for the evening (the most sought-after time).
