A typical concrete bunker in front of the Diamond Hotel — a perfect example of the Cold War mentality that defined Albania during the era of Enver Hoxha. More than 170,000 such bunkers were built across the country between 1967 and 1986, driven by fear of invasion. On the left side, steps lead up to the entrance — through the door, a poster is visible showing a catalogue of the types of bunkers that can be found throughout Albania.
The concrete bunker from the communist era is free to visit and can be viewed from the outside. It is located near the center of Saranda and offers a good view of the bay.
