Etz Hayyim Synagogue

Etz Hayyim Synagogue

The Etz Hayyim Synagogue in the former Jewish quarter of Chania is the only surviving Jewish religious monument in Crete. It traces its origins to the Venetian and Ottoman periods, and following the destruction of the Jewish community during World War II and decades of decay, it was restored in the late 20th century. Today it serves as a place of worship and a memorial site preserving the memory of the city's Jewish community.
