Stari Pag — Church of St. Mary and Ruins

Stari Pag — Church of St. Mary and Ruins

About a kilometer south of the present-day town lie the remains of medieval Stari Pag, the first settlement on the island of Pag, abandoned in the 15th century when the population relocated to a new, planned town. Preserved from the former settlement are house foundations, the ruins of a Franciscan monastery, and the Romanesque Church of St. Mary, which still stands amid the rocky terrain. The site is quiet and somewhat forgotten, yet it reveals the roots of Pag before Juraj Dalmatinac designed the current town center.
