One of the best-preserved medieval towns in the world, under UNESCO protection since 1988. Surrounded by massive 14th-century walls built by the Knights of Saint John, it conceals narrow stone streets, mosques, palaces, and churches. Entry into the quarter itself is free, but many attractions within it charge an admission fee.
Walking through the old town is free of charge. It is recommended to arrive in the morning before tourist groups. Numerous museums within the walls charge admission separately.
